Why We Love Designing Websites With Squarespace
Written by Flint House’s founder, Jessie Kershisnik.
If you've ever looked into getting a website, I'm sure you've been bombarded with tons of information about the many platforms out there. When I first started out as a freelance designer, I definitely struggled with figuring out which one to use for my own site. Here at Flint House, we’ve designed websites on a variety of different platforms (there are many great options out there), but for this post we’d specifically like to highlight a few reasons why we love using Squarespace as a website building platform.
We love Squarespace’s platform so much that not only do we use it for our studio’s website, but we highly recommend it to our clients as well (project permitting, of course, as some other website building platforms could be more suitable depending on the client’s needs). Whether it’s personal, business, or e-commerce sites, Squarespace allows us to create beautiful, unique sites for our clients, all without a hitch. Below are a few of the reasons why we love designing websites with Squarespace:
Squarespace is design-driven.
Take a moment to visit Squarespace’s homepage. What do you see? A beautiful layout? Simple and refined typography? Lots of white space, which makes the images pop? This is a good example of everything Squarespace represents, and is what we try to emulate in our own design work. Everything about Squarespace is design-driven. From their backend site editor to their customizable templates, Squarespace puts the focus on the most important part of a website — its design.
Squarespace is user friendly.
Squarespace’s backend editor is simple, clean, and user friendly. Where other website platforms tend to go overboard with backend options, Squarespace keeps it simple. When we’ve designed websites using less-intuitive platforms, our clients would sometimes get overwhelmed with its backend and found themselves getting lost or frustrated when they couldn’t find what they needed. Instead of inhibiting users, we find that Squarespace’s simplicity allows for more creativity and freedom on our end as designers.
Squarespace works across all platforms.
Have you ever gone to a website on your phone and noticed that it looked sort of… off? Something about the layout wasn’t right, or the font was way too small? We see this all the time. Mobile traffic now accounts for more than half of all website traffic. With that in mind, it’s critical that websites perform across any device and screen size. Squarespace has a unique, responsive website design automatically built in to each one of its templates. This means that no matter what device you’re viewing the site on, your website looks beautiful.
Squarespace is easy to manage.
One of the things we love most about Squarespace is how easy it is for our clients to maintain and update their websites on their own, long after the project has been successfully completed. Managing websites is a matter of dragging-and dropping, pulling on corners to resize images, or simply changing text. There are no plugins or themes that our clients have to consistently update, as everything is taken care of on Squarespace’s end. This frees up all the time you would normally spend updating a website, so that you can focus on more important things, like being creative and doing everything else you love about running your own business.
Squarespace is affordable.
Anyone can have a beautiful, efficient Squarespace website without breaking the bank. With plans that start at $12 a month, you get a free custom domain, powerful website metrics, unlimited bandwidth and storage, and so much more. Plus, there’s rarely any need to investigate or pay for third-party apps or plugins since most functionality is native to Squarespace, so that’s more money saved on your end. Squarespace has unparalleled support.
The Customer Care team at Squarespace is available seven days a week, 24-hours a day, and has won several awards for outstanding customer support. Whenever myself or a client has had a question or problem with their site, Squarespace support was easy to reach, easy to talk to, and the problem was usually fixed within an hour. That’s amazing for website customer service. I’ve even had Squarespace follow up on issues and make sure that everything was taken care of down the road. This kind of support definitely gives me, and my clients, strong peace of mind.
Squarespace provides detailed analytics.
I never truly understood the power and importance of analytics until I met my husband Jake. As a data analyst, he lives and breathes this kind of thing. His education and job has taught him how to help companies make the best business decisions based off of their data. Needless to say, when I showed him the website metrics on my Squarespace site, he was impressed. Squarespace’s analytics are accurate and easy to understand. They provide information such as what leads people to your site, what device they are accessing it on, and so much more. There have been a lot of valuable insights that myself and my clients have gained from this kind of information. On top of that, Squarespace allows for easy Google Analytics integration if you’re looking to get even more website visitor information and take things a step further.
Squarespace gives room to grow.
Most clients that I work with have big goals for their businesses, and they are working hard to achieve them. It’s important to have a website that still works for your needs later down the road, and the great thing about Squarespace is that it scales. Squarespace was designed for everyone from bloggers to musicians to online retailers, so you can be confident that it is robust and flexible enough to grow with your business.
